Outstanding 11+ Results at St. Anthony’s School for Girls

Congratulations to all the Year 6 girls at St. Anthony’s School for Girls for their outstanding performance in the 11+ examinations this year.
A winning combination of focused and determined girls, dynamic and inspirational teachers and thoughtful supportive parents ensured we achieved such resounding success for our inaugural Year 6 class of thirteen girls.
The girls achieved a total of 47 offers from the following schools:

County boarding school places came from St. Swithun’s School and Wycombe Abbey School. Music and Academic Scholarships, Exhibitions and awards were also included in our achievements.
On reflection, the girls acknowledged that preparing for the 11+ has been a very positive experience. The critical thinking and investigative curriculum in maths and English ignited the girls’ curiosity and interest in lateral thinking and problem solving tasks.
“I am no longer afraid of Maths” commented many of the girls who see ‘problem solving’ maths questions as Brain Teasers and exercises in finding solutions. ‘You may not get it right the first time, the important thing to remember is to not give up, try again’ was the classroom mantra.
Girls at St. Anthony’s are avid readers and wordsmiths. Their attention to crafting a piece of sincere and sensitive writing is sculpted with an array of finely chosen ‘words’ from their ever growing word bank. Writing from the heart, understanding the emotions of the characters in their books and always anchoring their writing within their own life and family experiences allowed the girls to see examination tasks as further writing opportunities.
The nurturing environment at St. Anthony’s meant that the Year 6 girls were at all times supportive of each other, working collaboratively, with girls rallying and motivating each other throughout this process.
St. Anthony’s Year 6 parents were instrumental in modelling this community approach. During the winter months they liaised closely with class teachers and agreed that 11+ early results, short-listing for interviews or rejections would not be sensationalised allowing for a quiet, calm to descend on home time news sharing in the busy countdown to results day.
This allowed all girls to collectively not feel overwrought as they worked towards interviews, further assessment and the end results on 14th February.
At St. Anthony’s we delight in teaching the 11+ syllabus in its entirety. We are teaching beyond the exam; we want to ensure that the creative curriculum is taught in the broadest sense as girls prepare for the 11+ examination.
